Speed Kills is a 12-week, in-depth, speed and power program that will help you become the fastest, strongest, and most explosive athlete that you have ever been! Let’s Break Down Speed Kills!
The goal of speed kills is to improve your speed and explosives like never before and that is all done through motor unit recruitment and rate of force development! Motor unit recruitment is the act of turning on as many muscle fibers as possible to enhance explosive power, which in return improves speed. Your muscles are lazy! They don’t want to activate if they do not have too! Through our training methods we teach your body how to activate correctly to enhance your speed and power development! We do this through three phases and three different training methods! Let us outline each phase along with goal and purpose of each!
Phase 1 – Eccentric and Isometric Loading Phase
Eccentric and isometric training has been shown to generate greater motor unit recruitment and rate of force development. This leads to greater amounts of generated mechanical tension throughout the muscles! Eccentric training has also been shown to improve an athlete’s efficiency of movement as they are better able to absorb potential energy during the eccentric phase of a movement. An athlete with greater movement efficacy, strength, and power is sure to perform better in their sport! In order to achive those benefits we incorporate the use of tempos to enhance the time under tension (TUT) of each exercise.
Phase 2 – Contrast Training Phase
Contrast training leads to better training results, especially in terms of increasing performance in power-based exercise. Our main emphasis in phase 2 is to improve “Post Activation Potentiation” (PAP). PAP is an increase in the ability to recruit “high threshold motor units”.
These high threshold motor units are used when we apply maximal intent to move an object as explosively as possible. Sound familiar? It should, because the goal of phase one was motor unit recruitment. Now we are attacking the muscle at full force with a power implementation to recruit as many motor units as possible!
Phase 3 – French Contrast Training Phase
Phase 3 of this program ramps up the training once again to maximize the rate of force development and high threshold motor unit recruitment! We implement the use of the “French Contrast Method” of training (FCM). The FCM works by accelerating high threshold motor recruitment and fiber activation. You will see unbelievable benefits in the rate of force development and power output. The FCM shows even greater improvements on PAP which in return improves speed and power at even greater levels!

Every phase in Speed Kills has 5 training sessions a week. 3 lifting days and 2 Speed and agility days. These sessions will last between 45 and 60 minutes in length. Speed and agility days has 1 linear speed day, and one speed and agility day. Linear speed is speed in a straight line. We work on improving sprinting speed, acceleration, deceleration and running form. On agility days we work on cutting, stopping, turning, accelerating, decelerating, and change of direction.
